Talent Agency Red Flags

When seeking representation from a local talent agency, there are certain conditions you should be wary of. Talent Link condemns and does not practice this approach to representation. You should see a "red flag" if an agency demands that you sign a "non-exclusive" contract which stipulates that if agents other than themselves contact you for any job, you must call them before accepting a job or audition to be sure that they are not also working on the same job. That is a sham. If they are not working on that job, they soon will be. They will ask you to find out everything you know about the job and then they will go after that job like a hawk. You can see why no other agency will represent you if you have agreed to share confidential information with their competitor. In essence, the "non-exclusive" contract is really an "exclusive" contract without having the decency to admit such.

It is unfortunate, but a fact of life that you must be very cautious when dealing with agents. Find an honest agent that believes in you and settle for no less.

We have received the following e-mail from an actor listed with Talent Link. These are the types of individuals we wish to represent!

"Thank you for addressing the agency issue on the website. I am so happy that it was you that took the higher road and publicly addressed the issue. I also wanted you to rest assured that I hold the same beliefs that you do concerning information sharing.

Though I have been asked by another agency to give them a call after I hear from you concerning a project, I NEVER do. You know that I operate under the belief that I just want to work! I do not believe I should be used as an information resource for your competition. Please know that I consider all information I get from Talent Link confidential and would never give client information to another agent."
